About PuzzleBase

What is PuzzleBase?

PuzzleBase is a tool that lets you, as a chess coach, easily create pdf chess puzzle worksheets, complete with an answer sheet, for your students. The database is searchable by theme & difficulty or by what opening was played that resulted in the puzzle. At its inception PuzzleBase has over 700,000 puzzles with plans to add more over time.

Why was PuzzleBase made

Puzzlebase was created by Tyson Walker, an Australian chess player with over 15 years experience coaching junior chess players. Tyson believes chess puzzles are one of the best ways to test a students understanding of a concept. Over the years Tyson felt confused by the sheer number of 'Student Chess Puzzle Worksheet' books available that all came with the copyright notice "No part of this book may be photocopied or reproduced without written permission from the publisher". The paradox of student worksheets that you can't photocopy (and the pain of actually photocopying them (the ones you legally could of course)) was enough to make Tyson say "there should be an easier way." PuzzleBase was created to allow chess coaches to easily and quickly create puzzle sheets for their students.

Where do the puzzles come from

Our puzzles come from open source databases that we have permission to modify and redistribute. When you use PuzzleBase the sheets you create can be copied/printed as many times as you want provided you are using them directly for your students (see terms of service)
